Article 1 (Purpose)

These Terms govern the use of the IELTS Writing and TOEFL Writing mock tests, automated scoring and feedback service (the "Service") operated by Writing PT (the "Company"), and set out the rights, obligations and responsibilities of the Company and its users.

Matters not covered by these Terms are governed by applicable Korean law and ordinary commercial practice.

Article 2 (Definitions)

The terms used in this document have the following meanings.

  • "User" means anyone who agrees to these Terms and uses the Service.
  • "Member" means a User who has registered an account by providing personal information to the Company.
  • "Mock test" means one set of exam-format writing tasks provided by the Company: Task 1 and Task 2 for IELTS, or the Integrated Task and the Academic Discussion Task for TOEFL.
  • "Attempt" means starting a mock test and either submitting an answer or reaching the end of the time limit. Your monthly allowance is consumed at that point.
  • "Automated scoring" means the process by which the Company uses an AI model to produce predicted criterion-level scores and diagnostics for a submitted response.
  • "Detailed feedback" means the learning material that includes sentence-level diagnosis, root-cause analysis, prescriptions for improvement and a model answer.
  • "Subscription" means a paid plan billed monthly on a recurring basis that renews access to the Service.
  • "Billing period" means the span from the day a subscription charge is made to the day before the next scheduled charge.

Article 3 (Effect and amendment of these Terms)

These Terms take effect once posted within the Service or otherwise communicated to Users.

The Company may amend these Terms within the limits of applicable law. Any amendment is announced inside the Service at least 7 days before it takes effect, together with the effective date and the reason for the change.

Where an amendment is unfavourable to Users or concerns a material matter, it is announced at least 30 days in advance and notified individually to the email address on the account.

A Member who does not accept an amendment may cancel the subscription and close the account before the effective date. Continuing to use the Service after that date is treated as acceptance of the amended Terms.

Article 4 (Registration and accounts)

Membership begins when a User agrees to these Terms and to the collection and use of personal information, applies to register, and the Company accepts the application. You may register with an email address and password, or with a Kakao account.

Members must provide accurate information about themselves and keep it up to date through the account settings page.

An account may be used only by the Member who registered it. Accounts may not be shared, transferred or lent to anyone else, and the Member is responsible for any loss arising from doing so.

The Company may refuse an application, or terminate the agreement afterwards, in any of the following cases.

  • The application uses the name or information of another person without authorisation.
  • The applicant previously lost access for a serious breach of these Terms.
  • The application is made with the intention of disrupting normal operation of the Service.
  • The applicant is under 14 years of age. Children under 14 cannot register until a verified guardian consent process is in place.

Article 5 (What the Service provides)

The Service consists of the following. The exact features and limits depend on your plan, as described on the pricing page.

The Company may change prompts, scoring criteria, feedback formats and screen layouts, and may add or adjust features, in order to improve quality. Material changes that are unfavourable to Users are announced in advance under Article 3.

  • Mock tests: writing exams that follow the real task types, length expectations and time limits.
  • Automated scoring: predicted criterion-level scores and an overall score for each submitted response.
  • Detailed feedback: sentence-level diagnosis, analysis of what held the score down, prescriptions for improvement and a model answer.
  • Learning records: attempt history, criterion-level score trends and a running record of recurring weaknesses.
  • Rewrite practice: the option to rewrite the same prompt after receiving a prescription, so you can measure the change.

Article 6 (Subscription plans and free trial)

The Service is sold only as a monthly subscription. The Company does not sell credit packs or prepaid test bundles.

Subscriptions are separated by exam family (IELTS Writing and TOEFL Writing), and each family offers a Standard plan and a Pro plan. Standard includes 4 mock tests per month. Pro has no monthly limit on attempts, subject to a soft cap of 3 attempts per day that protects system stability and guards against runaway cost.

The amount payable for each plan is the amount shown on the pricing page.

The exam family chosen at registration cannot be changed part-way through a billing period. Switching to the other exam takes effect from the next billing period.

Registering a subscription starts a 7-day free trial, during which your first mock test is free. If you cancel before the trial ends, nothing is charged.

Article 7 (Recurring payment)

Subscription fees are charged automatically through the payment gateway PortOne, using KakaoPay recurring payment. A billing key is issued for your payment method when you subscribe; the Company does not itself store card numbers or other payment credentials.

The first charge is made on the day the free trial ends, and subsequent charges are made on the same day of each month. Where a month has no such date, the charge is made on the last day of that month.

The Company notifies you by email before each scheduled charge, stating the date and the amount.

If a charge fails because of insufficient funds, a suspended payment method or a similar reason, the Company may retry for a limited period. If payment still does not succeed, the subscription does not renew and access to paid features stops.

Article 8 (Cancellation and account closure)

You may cancel your subscription at any time from your account settings page. Cancellation takes effect immediately in the sense that no further charge is made from the next billing period onward. There is no cancellation fee.

After cancelling, you keep access for the remainder of the billing period you have already paid for. Refunds for a paid period are governed by the separate Refund Policy.

You may close your account from your account settings page. When you do, your account and learning records are deleted without undue delay, except for records the Company must retain by law. Deleted responses and feedback cannot be recovered.

The Company may terminate the agreement after prior notice if a Member seriously breaches these Terms. Where urgent action is required, the Company may restrict access first and give notice afterwards.

Article 9 (User obligations)

You must not do any of the following while using the Service.

If you breach this Article, the Company may void the scoring result for the response concerned, restrict your access, or terminate the agreement.

  • Submitting work written by someone else, or copyrighted text, as your own response.
  • Entering live exam prompts or real candidate responses that you are not authorised to share.
  • Using automated tools to submit responses in bulk, or calling the Service repeatedly for the sole purpose of extracting scores.
  • Reproducing prompts, model answers or feedback supplied by the Company in order to distribute them externally or sell them commercially.
  • Exploiting weaknesses in the Service to bypass attempt limits or payment steps.
  • Sharing, lending or transferring your account to anyone else.
  • Interfering with the stable operation of the Service or with other users.

Article 10 (Interruption of the Service)

The Company may suspend the Service temporarily for maintenance, equipment repair or capacity expansion, and will announce this inside the Service beforehand. Where advance notice is not possible, such as during an urgent incident, notice is given afterwards.

The Company may also suspend the Service for as long as a cause beyond its control persists, such as a natural disaster, a power failure, a network outage or an outage at an external provider.

If the Company is at fault for a period during which the Service was not properly available, that period is extended or refunded according to the Refund Policy.

Article 11 (Intellectual property)

The Company, or the rightful owner, holds all rights in the mock test prompts, model answers, scoring rubrics, feedback templates, interface design, trade marks and every other work that makes up the Service.

You may use material obtained through the Service for your own study only. Without prior written permission from the Company you may not copy, transmit, publish, distribute or broadcast it, or allow a third party to use it.

Writing PT is not affiliated with, endorsed by or approved by the organisations that administer IELTS or TOEFL. Those trade marks belong to their respective owners.

Article 12 (Rights in your responses)

You retain copyright in the responses you write and submit. The Company does not take ownership of them.

You do grant the Company permission to use your responses to the extent necessary to deliver the Service. That permission covers the following.

Where the Company uses responses to improve scoring quality or to compile statistics, it does so only after the material has been processed so that individuals cannot be identified. You may delete individual responses from your learning records, and a deleted response is excluded from any further use for improvement purposes.

  • Storing your submitted response and displaying it back to you.
  • Processing the response for automated scoring and feedback, including transmitting it to an external AI processor for that purpose.
  • Using the material, after it has been processed so that individuals cannot be identified, to improve scoring quality and compile statistics.

Article 13 (Disclaimer)

Automated scoring produces a predicted score based on criteria set by the Company. It may differ from the result of an official IELTS or TOEFL test. The Company makes no promise that a predicted score will match an official result, and you use the Service on that understanding.

The Service is a study tool. It does not promise any particular test result, nor any outcome such as admission or employment.

The Company is not liable for a User failing to obtain an expected outcome from the Service. Where loss is caused by the intent or negligence of the Company, liability follows applicable law.

The Company has no obligation to intervene in the content a User submits, or in a dispute between Users or between a User and a third party, and is not liable for loss arising from such a dispute.

Article 14 (Protection of personal information)

The Company protects personal information in accordance with applicable law. The items processed, the purposes, retention periods, outsourcing and overseas transfers, and the rights of data subjects are set out in the Privacy Policy.

Consent is collected separately for items that are strictly required and items that are optional. Declining an optional consent does not restrict your use of the paid service, including taking mock tests and viewing your scores.

Article 15 (Dispute resolution and governing law)

The Company operates a support channel so that complaints and suggestions can be handled promptly, and informs Users of the expected timeline and the outcome.

If a dispute arises, the Company and the User will seek to resolve it in good faith. Failing that, a User may apply for mediation to an external body such as the Korea Consumer Agency or the Electronic Commerce Mediation Committee.

These Terms and the use of the Service are governed by the laws of the Republic of Korea. Any litigation is brought before the court having jurisdiction under the Korean Civil Procedure Act.
